Set off on a full-day discovery tour combining history and coastal scenery in Shimoda, on the Izu Peninsula – from Tokyo!
Your day will begin with pickup from your accommodation in Tokyo by your English-speaking local guide in a private vehicle. You’ll head south toward Shimoda, a charming coastal town located about 3 hours from Tokyo, in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Your first stop will be Ryosenji Temple, the site where the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Japan and the United States was signed in the 19th century. With your guide’s insights, you’ll learn more about this historic event that marked Japan’s opening to the world.
Next, you’ll take a walk along Perry Road, a street lined with old buildings and canals, reflecting Shimoda’s port-town heritage. The peaceful atmosphere invites you to stroll and explore.
The tour continues along the coast: you may relax on the white sands of Shirahama Beach or head to Cape Tsumekizaki for a panoramic view of its iconic lighthouse and the Pacific Ocean.
After a day filled with culture, history, and seaside landscapes, your guide will drive you back to your hotel in Tokyo in the late afternoon.
