In the morning, you'll meet your guide at Kyoto station and be driven to Uji, about 30 minutes away by bus. Start your day with a visit to Uji's Byodo-in temple, famous for its elegant architecture and peaceful setting. Admire the Phoenix Pavilion, whose reflection in the temple pond adds to its charm. This temple is also famous for being featured on the Japanese 10-yen coin.
Then, take part in a matcha tea preparation experience: Uji is indeed one of Japan's leading green tea producing regions. You'll learn how to prepare and taste authentic Uji matcha during this hands-on activity.
For lunch, you'll enjoy a sushi-making workshop at the Umemori Sushi School. Under the guidance of an expert instructor, you'll learn the art of sushi-making and taste your own creations.
In the afternoon, you'll take the bus back to Nara, the first permanent capital of Imperial Japan from 710 to 784. You'll first visit the Kasuga Taisha Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its many stone and bronze lanterns.
You'll continue with Todai-ji Temple, the world's largest wooden structure housing a colossal 15-metre-high Buddha statue.
Finally, you'll take a stroll through Nara Park, where you can observe hundreds of free-roaming fallow deer, adding a charming touch to your visit.
