Uncover the mysteries of the Moai on a half-day tour through the highlands of Ahu Akivi and the inland sites of Easter Island!
Departing from your hotel, your excursion will begin with a visit to Ahu Akivi, a unique site featuring seven aligned Moai statues facing the ocean. According to legend, these figures represent the first explorers sent to the island by King Hotu Matu’a. Unlike most Moai, which face inland, these statues look out toward the horizon, making this archaeological site truly exceptional.
You’ll then continue to Ana Te Pahu cave, one of the island’s largest volcanic cavities. Once used as a shelter and cultivation space by the island’s early inhabitants, the cave offers a fascinating glimpse into the everyday life of the Rapa Nui people.
Finally, you’ll head to the site of Puna Pau, a small red scoria quarry where the pukao—topknots or “hats” placed on certain Moai—were carved. Here, you’ll see several unfinished or abandoned pukao, offering insight into how these iconic features were created and transported.
A captivating excursion to explore iconic sites and deepen your understanding of ancient Rapa Nui traditions.
