Ride in an off-road van to the top of Mauna Kea volcano on Hawaii's Big Island and enjoy a picnic dinner in a beautiful setting!

After being picked up from your hotel, you'll ride in an off-road van to the top of Mauna Kea volcano at an altitude of over 4,200 meters and experience the stunning scenery of Hawaii's Big Island. This dormant volcano in the heart of the island is one million years old and is one of the five main volcanoes here. Your guide will tell you all about its history and the first travellers here ahead of your picnic dinner on the mountain.

Admire the beautiful colours of the sunset from the highest point in the Pacific. You'll also have the opportunity to stargaze through the telescopes after dark before the journey back to your hotel.

  • Times: pick-up from your hotel is between 2:10 am and 4:45 am; the exact time will be confirmed after booking
  • Location: Big Island, Hawaii
    • For departures from Kona: Due to the time constraints in terms of sunrise and sunset, pick-ups are only available from the Waikoloa Resort (Marriott, Hilton, Queens MarketPlace) and Waikoloa Village (Paniolo Greens and Island Lava Java). You may also choose to go directly to the Hawaii Forest & Trail agency in Kona
  • The altitude at the summit is 4200 meters and the temperature is 0° Celsius
  • The walking distance on this tour is approximately 140 meters
  • The activity is not accessible to people with medical issues (heart and respiratory problems) nor to pregnant women
  • Children under 13 are not permitted
  • The tour can accommodate a group of 12 people max
  • To fully enjoy the activity, we advise wearing a jacket, full-length trousers, and suitable footwear
  • Weather conditions can change rapidly, and the access road to the summit may be closed without notice. Access to the summit is therefore not guaranteed
